I am always surprised when Christmas is just a few days away. The older I get, the faster the time flies. I was feeling really on top of things and on the ball when Bailey & I got the Xmas tree up the first week of December. After that I don't know what happened. The days flew by and now it is almost Xmas. Every year I say that I will be organized and prepared, getting everything accomplished in a timely fashion. Guess what? Every year I fail LOL. So, I will be out there shopping tomorrow and probaby Friday, for a few things. I still need to do some baking and wrapping too. Another thing I say every year....somehow it all gets done and we have a wonderful Xmas.
Taz was very cooperative, sitting his poor little bum in the cold snow so I could take some holiday pics of him in his hat. He was well compensated with treats afterward. As you can tell from his face, he's not really not feeling the holiday cheer at the moment. He's a good boy and he forgave me.
Merry Christmas to you all and have a wonderful holiday time.
The snow has stopped and the sun is out but.....man....is it cold! I don't know what is happening but here on the west coast we don't get this kind of weather...yet we have. I woke up this morning to 23°F...yikes...that is cold! Taz didn't mind though. He enjoyed running across the frozen snow and racing across the upper garden area. I hope the sunshine warms the ice a bit so it'll be easier to shovel later as I still need to dig out a bit of the driveway. It seems weird to not have driven my car for 3 days. I really want to get out and run some errands if I can.
Woke up to snow falling this morning. After half a cup of coffee I threw some clothes on, grabbed Taz and my camera and headed out across the street to the path along the river. It was so quiet and peaceful, we only came upon one person on a bike and another girl out with her dog. Taz got very excited, running over to say hi to the other dog, who was timid and ran away. He consoled himself by find a good stick to chew on. If it continues to snow, I'll head out again in an hour or two, to take a few macro shots. If it turns to rain, I'll stay indoors. We'll see.
The sun is out this morning. It is cold, 30°F, but it is dry and clear. The birds are happily fluttering and bickering with each other around the suet. I stood at the other end of the porch and watched them for a few minutes, snapping some photos of them. I could watch them for hours but I need to get some work done and it is pretty cold out here, so I'll head back inside and warm up in my office.
Here on the west coast of BC we don't often get much snow and when we do, it is a wetter, slushier snow than I am used to, having grown up in Ontario. I don't miss the frigid cold temps and the frozen sidewalks and streets, but I do miss the clean, pretty look of snow. So when we do get some here, I always stop and marvel at the beauty of it. By late today it will be gone. We're looking at a few days of freezing rain ahead...not so pretty. So, to take advantage of this unexpected prettiness I went out into the garden to snap a few pics.
It's beginning to feel a lot like Xmas around here now. Bailey & I put up the tree. Darrell put the angel on. Then we took a few selfies in front of the tree. Taz wasn't really very enthused about posing for a pic but he endured it LOL.
I'm really feeling the itch to get back out to Reifel Sanctuary and spend a relaxing morning wandering along the paths and enjoying the birds. I feel a peace, a calmness, when I am outdoors, photographing the scenery, the wildlife. It is my "zen" time. I need to get back there soon, if only it would stop raining.
It's December 1st, time to bring out the Xmas coffee mugs. I bought this set of Bowrings coffee mugs about 25 yrs ago and they stay in the cupboard every year until December 1st when I start using them for the month. On January 1st they will go back into the cupboard for another year. No one else uses these mugs and I carefully handwash them so that the delicate pointsettia pattern doesn't get worn off. This marks the start of the Xmas season for me!
Taz doesn't seem as excited about December 1st and the Xmas mugs. It's morning and still his nap time on the couch.
I'm going in a new direction now. I've decided to take a break from portrait and wedding photography and want to focus on my hobbies, my interests, my photos. In the earlier years, before I became a photographer, I had a blog to share recipes, personal photos, my hobbies, etc. I gave all that up when I opened my business and recently I've been missing it. So now I'm going back to my roots, back to what made me happy....my stuff. You're not going to see client sneak peaks here anymore. You're going to see photos of what I love...my dog, my family, my friends, my neighborhood...you're going to see lots of macro and lens baby photos too....probably some recipes and pinterest finds...and, as I mentioned already but it bears repeating.....photos of my DOG...Taz...that's what makes me happy, makes me smile and I hope it makes you smile too.
